Vietnam advances its energy storage pathway toward 2030
VIR reports that Vietnam is advancing its BESS roadmap, including a revised PDP8 target of 10,000-16,300 MW of storage by 2030.
Vietnam Investment Review reported on December 4, 2025 that Vietnam is sharpening its roadmap for battery energy storage systems (BESS) through 2030.
According to the article, a three-day convention from December 1-3 brought together regulators, technical agencies, utilities and industrial operators to review policy progress, technical studies and financing pathways for storage projects.
VIR reported that the revised Power Development Plan VIII targets 10,000-16,300 MW of storage by 2030 and approximately 96 GW of BESS toward the 2050 vision. EVN is also considering assigning its five power corporations to deploy around 1,200 MW of BESS.
The article cited recent policy instruments on pricing methods and requirements for renewable-paired storage, as well as an expected circular on electricity service pricing for BESS. Pilot examples include EVN Hanoi’s 50 MW/50 MWh project and a 5 MW/10 MWh project at Tan Phu Trung Industrial Park in Ho Chi Minh City.
